As a young girl growing up in Lima, Perú, I eagerly anticipated trips with my parents to the tiny village of Mito,
where my paternal grandmother lived. Our visits with her always included excursion to the homes of local artisans.
For me, these visits were more like historical journeys. I listened attentively as grandmother explained the personal
connection of each craftsman's work to cultural traditions and legends.

Years later, as I recanted her stories to my children during buying trips together in Perú, I realized just how greatly
she influenced my path in life. South American Accents, which showcases the skilled artistry that my grandmother
so admired, is a tribute no only to her, but to the people, art and history of Perú.
